Skin Care: Collagen Is The Natural Choice For Cosmetic Filler Skin Care

Collagen is one of the only natural skin care injectables still available on the market. Read on to know more about it.

With so many other cosmetic fillers on the market, many people have forgotten about a past popular favorite, collagen. This injectable used to be the hottest on the market, but has recently fallen out of favor in the skin care field due to longer-lasting rivals; however, it still has something that other fillers don't.

Many other injectables cannot really be qualified as skin care since they are derived from toxic or chemical sources. It is naturally produced in the body and is lost as we age.

Injections simply help increase the collagen level in the body, plumping up depressions and deflated lips. The most commonly treated areas include wrinkles around the eyes (crow's feet), smile and frown lines, and the lips.

There are two main types of collagen used: bovine and human. There is little if any difference between the results yielded by both types; however, bovine has been known to cause allergic reactions to a small proportion of the population so an allergy test is required before treatment.

The rate of allergy is small, but it appears that those suffering from certain diseases such as arthritis may be at a greater risk. The advantage of choosing bovine though is that it is considerably less expensive than human collagen.

Such treatments are performed in office with no anesthetic necessary. The doctor marks the areas of the skin to be treated and injects a small amount of filler into the targets. Generally each area will require multiple injections in order to get the best and most natural results.

Most people find the procedure slightly uncomfortable but it is not usually considered painful. The treatment takes from twenty to forty minutes and the patient can return to normal activities immediately. There may be some slight redness or swelling but this normally dissipates in a day or two.

Although these injections are a fairly safe form, the initial swelling may make the treated areas appear overly large and unnatural. This will fade within a week, but if you are extremely sensitive about your appearance or what others may think, you may want to take a few days off from work.

There are few serious risks, but there is always the chance of the rare infection or scarring. Choosing a highly skilled surgeon will further minimize the chance of developing a complication.

Like many other skin care fillers, it has a limited lifespan. The results will last between three and nine months before further injections are needed. One reason why many people prefer collagen to longer lasting artificial fillers is that it attaches to the existing collagen in the body, and some doctors believe it may help promote natural growth within the body once again.

Such injections are a great weapon against ageing and unwanted wrinkles. It can easily be combined with other forms of filler and skin care treatments such as chemical peels to give you great results that will keep you looking refreshed and youthful for many months and even years. About Author
